Progress! Woo!
Since I have all of given up on noodling around with Fruity loops I have gotten much more done.
90 percent of what I make is garbage, but that’s okay because 80% of what I make is me experimenting and trying something I’d never done before (what if I make a song entirely out of triplets?). When I’m actually going for a song it usually turns out well.
I’m currently working on a song I call Secondgood. That’s only the working title because it came after first, and it’s good. I don’t know what to do with it at this point, but it sounds okay as it is.
It doesn’t actually have any rhythmic variety. It’s just repeated eight notes. Surprisingly, both of my really good classical sounding songs have been just repeating eight notes. Maybe rhythm is overrated?
After I composed it with finale it was rendered really poorly. Finale isn’t great at rendering. Its one piano not bent to every pitch. It sounds artificial and not much like a piano. I ran it through Fruity Loops just to rerender it and for some reason all of the G notes were horribly out of tune. I took days trying to figure it out. I did everything. I made sure human playback wasn’t turned on, checked to see if there was pitch bend on, rewrote all of the of the G notes, transposed it so that G was played less and tried different versions of the piano instrument set. No help.
Eventually I resaved it from finale, and reuploaded it into Fruity Loops. That worked.
Below is a Soundcloud that should play the song for you.
It would probably mean more if you could see the sheet music (if you read sheet music). If anyone is interested I can post a link to a free program that will read my finale files and I will start posting my finale files as well.

My journeys through mentor finding.
Just this afternoon I talked to Mr. Carmichael and he has agreed to mentor me, but he’s afraid of two things. Firstly, he isn’t sure how well he will be able to actually teach me since he is so busy with other work. I don’t think this will be a big problem because I have many sources to learn from and what I really need him for is feedback. Secondly, he wants to make sure he knows exactly what’s expected of him. I told him he is just supposed to help me however he can and that we should meet up occasionally, but he expected he would be required to write a report on my progress or things something of that nature. He isn’t sure he’d be able to quickly do something like that, so he was hesitant. He wants to email both Ms. Mulder and Mr. Jackson (Who is my audience right now? Am I writing to the class or Mulder?) just to make sure he knows what’s happening. I’m not entirely sure why he thinks he has too, because I explained it pretty clearly.
As for my secondary mentors, I’m looking into Jeff Huggins and David Blair, as was recommended. The problems here: I don’t know Jeff’s phone number and I’m supposed to text him. I’m not sure which David Blair I’m supposed to be looking for. There are at least two musical David Blair’s. If you could post a link to the website I’m supposed to be visiting? Davidblair.com was a hotel or something.
I think that’s everything.

One Response to “Indepth number 4 (?) I think its four.”
Toren, I love this piece of music. Mr. Jackson has both sets of info for you about the other two mentors. You can give Mr. Carmichael your in-depth info sheets outlining what it is all about. He is basically supposed to provide you with feedback, insights, share his expertise and give you some direction for what you should try next each vsiit you have with him.
